Dod, who Trump said he would “close immediately”, announced on Tuesday that he would reduce his workforce from about 4,133 to about 2,183 employees. The remaining workers affected by the decrease will be placed on administrative leave of March 21.
Madi Biedermann, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications, US Ministry of Education, told Fox News Digital in response to a lawsuit that they are “strategic, internal cuts that will not directly influence students and family”.

“President Trump has been elected to the US public to restore the body for education to state,” Biedermann told Fox News Digital. “The reduction of the Strength Education Department (RIF) was carried out carefully and in accordance with all applicable regulations and laws. They are strategic, internal cuts that will not directly affect students and family.”
Biedermann also said that no employee working on FAFSA, servicing student loans, elementary and secondary education titles (ESEA), Office for Special Educational Programs or Directorate of Rehabilitation Services serving children with disabilities.
“The Civic Rights Office will continue to investigate complaints and vigorously implement federal civil rights laws,” Biedermann said.

“This administration may claim that it stops waste and fraud, but it is clear that their only mission is to deprive the necessary services, resources and financing they need for students and their families,” said James, General State Attorney General of New York and the vocal Trump critic in a statement on Thursday. “This incredible effort for students to leave behind and devoid of quality education is reckless and illegal.”
The lawsuit comes only a few days after Trump’s administration officially seized James from her safety approval.
Other blue countries that sue the administration include Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Wasconsin, Vermont and Rommont.

The lawsuit points to the attempts of former President Ronald Reagan to close the department, claiming that the efforts reflect “uncontrolled understanding that only Congress could abolish the agency she created.”

McMahon admitted during her certificate hearing in February that the administration would need Congress approval to eliminate the department.
“The Federal Government does not control the education, the states do so, local school committees. This is about possibilities,” McMahon said Fox News’ Laura Ingraham in the midst of a decrease in labor. “That’s why so many people are so angry about it, because they just take away the opportunity from children who do not have it.”
