“I was excited when I heard that President Trump was open to the idea of being the next pope. This would truly be a candidate for dark horses, but I would ask the papal conclave and Catholic believers to open up to this possibility!” Wrote the senator on x while sharing video Trump’s comments.

Fox News Digital addressed the Graham’s office to the comment, but did not receive an answer until the moment of publication.
Trump said earlier on Tuesday that his “number one choice” would be alone for the new pope.

He then said he had no “any preferences,” adding, “we have a cardinal who happens to be outside a place called New York, which is very good.”
The president seems to be related to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who serves as an archbishop of New York.
