In October, Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News alleging election interference over his “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing the network of helping his Democratic rival with deceptive editing. The Wall Street Journal reported last week That parent company, CBS Paramount Global, is considering settling the suit ahead of a planned merger that must ultimately pass muster with the new Trump administration.
Sanders took to the X on Friday to sound the alarm over the prospect of a settlement.
“CBS may be reaching a legal settlement with Trump because he didn’t like how the campaign interview with Kamal was handled. Really?” Sanders responded. “If CBS is spying, the belief that we have an independent media protected by the First Amendment is undermined.”
“CBS: stand tall. Support the Constitution,” the progressive lawmaker added.

CBS News did not immediately respond Fox News Digitalrequest for comment.
Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News stems from an exchange Harris had with “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker. In a preview that aired on “Face the Nation,” Harris questioned why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn’t seem to be listening to the U.S.
“Well, Bill, the work that we’ve done has resulted in a number of moves in that region by Israel that have largely been driven or the result of a lot of things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,” Harris responded in the clip. Face the Nation”.
Harris was mocked by conservatives for offering a lengthy “word salad” to Whitaker. But when that same question was aired the next night in the midterms, a shorter, more focused answer The vice president followed.
“We will not stop pursuing what it takes to make the United States clear about where we stand on the need to end this war,” Harris said on the PrimeTime Special.

Critics accused CBS News of editing Harris’s “word salad” response To protect the vice president from further blowback, and there were calls for the network to release the full transcript after only sharing transcripts of what aired.
“To paper over Kamal’s word salad weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from exercising judgment in reporting false, deceptive news manipulation,” the lawsuit states.
Trump’s lawyers argued that the changes were made in an effort to “try to tip the scales in the Democratic Party’s favor as the heated 2024 presidential election — which President Trump is leading — nears its conclusion.”

“CBS’s partisan and illegal acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive and significant distortions of news calculated to confuse, deceive and mislead the public,” the lawsuit states.
The WSJ reported that Paramount is considering a deal with the president as it pursues a merger with Skydance Media in hopes of averting potential retaliation from Trump’s FCC, which has the power to block the multibillion-dollar transaction.

Rumors of the settlement come just weeks after ABC News settled its defamation lawsuit filed by Trump, which resulted in him paying $15 million and issuing a written apology.
Trump sued the Disney-owned network last year after swapping anchor George Stephanopoulos with the hire of Nancy Mace, Rs.C., on the Sunday morning news program “This Week.”
During the interview, Stephanopoulos claimed ten separate times Trump was found “liable for rape,” when the jury in the civil case of E. Jean Carroll actually found him liable for “sexual assault,” which has a special definition under New York law.

In spite of defiant Stephanopoulos took the position early, and his bosses in the mouse house felt differently. According to the settlement, ABC News paid $15 million as a charitable contribution “to a presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for the plaintiff, as established in the past by presidents of the United States of America.” In addition, the network will pay $1 million in Trump’s legal fees. Stephanopoulos and ABC News also had to issue statements of “regret” as editor’s notes at the bottom of the article on the ABC News website.
Liberal critics have accused ABC News of “bending the knee” to Trump and setting a bad precedent, something Sanders says will happen with CBS News siding with the president.
