The Semisonic band made it clear on Monday that he “did not approve or approved” Video in the White House Using their song “Closing Time”.
The official White House and the American Customs and Border Protection (CBP) X posted a video showing deportations in the famous song from the 90’s, and the White House contains “You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”
“The time is closing. We do America again” CBP said in his repost.

In a statement published hours later, Semisonic said that the band had not approved the video and that Trump’s administration “missed the point” of the song.
“We did not approve or approved the use of our song” Closing the Time “of the White House in any way. And no, they did not ask. The song is about joy and opportunities and hope, and they completely missed the point,” Semisonic wrote on X.
Fox News Digital Reached to the White House for comment.
The Karolina Leavitt White House secretary explained the video during a briefing for journalists on Monday, saying that “it is pretty good to summarize our immigration policy: you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”
“The White House and our entire Government obviously lean into the message of this president, and we are not afraid to double and take responsibility and ownership of the serious decisions that are made,” Leavitt said. “The president was elected with an irresistible mandate to launch the biggest campaign for mass deportation in American history. And that’s exactly what he does.”

Semisonic joins the long -lasting list of famous bands and musicians, including Foo Fighters, Celine Dion, Beyoncé and Abba, complaining About President Donald Trump who used his songs during a campaign or events in the White House.
One significant exception is village people. After insisting previously that Trump stops using his songs “Ymca” and “Machho Man”, the founder of the band Victor Willis changed his mind 2024 after he praised Trump for “bringing so much joy to the American people” with his songs.
