Rodeo legend ‘Super Looper’ Roy Cooper dead at 69 after house fire

Roy Cooper, called “Super Looper” during his Legendary Rodeo careerdied this week at the age of 69.

Cooper, considered to be the greatest roper of all time, died in a home fire on his property in Hentsville, Texas, Tuesday.

“With great sadness, our family shares the passage of our father, Super Looper, Roy Cooper,” wrote Cooper’s son Tuf in a Facebook post. “We are all in shock and in this moment the loss of words from this tragedy.”

Cooper launched his career in 1976, when he won the World Cup in his first national finals. He won eight titles overall and was introduced at the Volunteer Hall of Fame in 1979, just three years in his career.

Tuf is a third -generation star. Cooper’s parents were also ropes. Cooper’s mother was born on the ranch and the family lived in Novi Mexico when he grew up.
