Red Sox’s Jarren Duran steals home vs Guardians

Boston Red Sox Outfielder Jarren Duran has repeatedly shown speed during his young MLB career, but nothing just like Saturday night against Cleveland Guardians.

He did something that no Red Sox player did in 16 years. In fact, it was exactly the same date that Jacoby Ellsbury did this New York Yankees.

Duran had a pure theft of a house against Guardians Pither Doug Nikhazy in the victory of Boston 7-3 in the second game of DoubleHeader on Saturday night in Cleveland.

Speedster danced the third base, and Nikhazy, a leftist, couldn’t really see how far Duran was down the line, because his back was facing his bag.

Duran fully used descending from the base, but when he was basically halfway, he lowered his head down and began to sprint home. Nikhazy quickly lifted his leg and fired the field, but the boatman Bo naylor could not tear down the mark before Durana’s right hand crossed her home board.

“(Third Coach Base Kyle Hudson) he heard him telling the court to work from the move, so I decided to go at first burden,” Duran said when asked why he stole home. “It was just to continue the insult and caused a little chaos. I knew I had it.”

Red Sox manager Alex Cora added: “By new rules, he is somehow the perfect player. We saw the window there and used the situation.”

One of the new rules that Cora relates here is that the catcher is not allowed to block the board with his body, which allowed Duran to dive his head first in the house.

It’s not the first time Duran has tried to do it. Only last season, he tried twice, once against Tampa Bay Rays May 21, and others against Chicago White Sox on June 7th.

He scored both attempts, but they were also double theft, which means that the second player of Red Sox crossed for a second, which allowed him to go home.

This, however, was direct theft, and Rafael Devers, who was in the dough box at the time, jumped up and down when the judge’s board called Duran Safe.

“It was a really cool game and a cool sequence of events there,” Walker Buehler said. “He’s one of the most exciting players in a baseball. After watching him from afar, it was fun to see him close up this season.”

Even the manager of Guardians Stephen Vogt had to specify his cap Duran, who he said he had made a “baseball play” after noticing that his third base man, Jose Ramirez, was nowhere near the third base to keep Duran near.

Nikhazy could step down the tire and shoot the ball home, instead of going through his usual delivery from stretching – something he regrets in an enviable situation.

“He made a big jump and started immediately,” Nikhazy said. “In an instant, I decided to make a ground unlike going. Finally, when I saw him, I should have stepped down.”

Duran, 25-year-old All-Star last season, enjoys the solid start of the 2025 campaign, as he runs a league with nine stolen bases and three threesomes. Reduced .256/.316/.388 S .704 OPs during so far.
