Prosecutors suspect ‘terrorist motive’ in Amsterdam stabbing that injured 2 Americans


The man who stabbed five people in Amsterdam last week, including two Americans, probably had “Terrorist motif”, Dutch prosecutors announced on Tuesday.

A suspect, identified by the police as a 30-year-old Ukrainian from the Donjeck region, according to to Reuters, He was detained on Thursday after the passerby allegedly overcame him.

“A man suspects five points of attempted murder or murder with a terrorist motive,” the news agency quoted Tuesday.

“The police investigation is in full swing and currently has a full priority. We hope we will soon get more clarity about the background of this terrible stitch,” Mayor Amsterdam Femke Halsem said last week. “Our hearts come out to victims, their families and loved ones.”

Police said the suspects had applied to the hotel in Amsterdam the day before the attack, Reuters reported.

The Polish victim was released from a local hospital. From Tuesday, other victims remain in medical care and are stable, Reuters added.

AND State Department Fox News spokesman confirmed that two US nationals had been injured during the incident.

“The United States USA has no greater priority than US citizens’ safety and security,” a spokesman said. “We closely monitor the reports of a sting in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We extend our sympathy to the victims and families of the affected. We can confirm that two US nationals were injured.”
