Years ago, my wife Gracie sang for the president George W. Bush at a special event in Nashville. That performance opened the other door. A year later, she was invited to sing at the Republican National Convention in 2004 in Madison Square Garden, New York.
After her appearance in New York, we were introduced to the president’s box – sitting right behind George Hw and Barbara Bush. The next day, the White House invited again as we packed home.
They wanted us on a platform with the president as he accepted his nomination.
We once stood behind the president on the stage the whole world saw. But on Easter we celebrate the one who holds the whole world. (East)
That Thursday night, the Arena roared. The flags hung sharp and shine above the head. The crowd fans glued seats. The place pulsed like living beings. If you are watching the shots, you will see Gracie and me right through the president’s left shoulder, clapping until our hands are blowing.
As much as everything was felt, he stood out for a moment – and that did not happen on stage or near the president. It came a week after the event in Nashville. I returned to the same hotel and passed by the hall – the same the room that held the presidentSecret service, media and temporary seat of American power.
Now?
Empty. No podium. No flags. There was no chair left behind. Just another room, waiting for the next event.
It’s a matter of strength in this world. It shows big – but it doesn’t stay.

The stage goes down. The room is reset. The moment goes by.

Even Madison Square Garden – iconic as it is – followed the same pattern. One night, it was a national center of attention. Next, just the arena again.

While former President Bush and his wife Laura entered the Rotund Capitol, their arrival was announced and met with polite applause. But this was not compared to the thunderous welcome he once received on that stage in New York – or even in that hotel hall.
The weight and glory of the office moved on.
That’s how it works. The earthly glory is loud, impressive and short-lived.
But not with Christ.

He did not enter the stage. It was erected on the Roman cross – like Mosessa who raised a snake in the desert. He was raised – not inspired, but to save.

The hill was not big. Golgotha was a landfill.
No in the spotlight. No entourage. No applause. Only the Savior – And the cross.
Presidents hold borrowed power. Christ does not borrow anything.
And here’s the difference: when the president leaves the room, power goes with him.
When Christ goes into life, he remains.
It does not come to the ceremony. Comes to govern – and the traps of their office never leave.

It’s not a political slogan. It’s the throne.
