Housing and urban development Secretary Scott Turner has re -strengthened the role of a private sector in helping economically upset areas that have been neglected for decades – including a tour of Philadelphia’s areas that have seen mass development since served in the first Trump administration.
“The last five years have brought $ 84 billion in private investment. One million people have abolished the poverty rolls. The zones of the houses and the opportunity have increased, while the rent has not increased. And so the initiative for zone of opportunities is not only about economic development, but it is a community development. Families are able to exclude new foundations for their lives,” from Philadelphia.
Turner traveled to the city of brotherly love on Thursday to meet with local leaders and business leaders to talk and visit recently revitalized areas of city projects and opportunities, which were defined as economically grounded areas throughout the country that encourages investment and economic development of federal tax reliefs for investors. Now that Turner serves as secretary of Hud, the second Trump administration, he has reviewed his excitement for “Opportunity Zones 2.0”, which will make the program “even better than before”.
“I am very excited about the extension, the continuation of the opportunity zone. And Opportuvi Zones 2.0, if you will, and my estimate will be even better. So I look forward to working with Senar Tim Scott, Congress, a white house and our private partners to do this even better than before, “he said.
On Thursday, Turner spent a meeting with local leaders in Philadelphia’s residential administration, before visiting the food products built in the neighborhood of the northern Philadelphia, SHARSWOOD-BLUMBERG, which was historically needed by crime and economic struggle.

The building was previously served as a power plant that was built shortly after World War I, before decades closed and empty without hope in revitalization because of its high costs and work on rehabilitation, according to the investors and leaders of the local development that joined the Turk on its tour of the building. The prospects of the building turned in 2020, as the designation of the opportunity and tax incentives for the preservation of historical real estate has attracted $ 154 million in investment.

Turner explained to Fox Digital that development in zones of opportunities affect families and throughout the community, while gathering economic capabilities for private investors.

Philadelphia was swinging a crime, a fentanyl addiction and Homelessness in recent yearsWhat were three questions that were spiral across the country in the middle and following the coronavirus pandemia. Turner pointed out for Fox News Digital yes “The government is not an answer“The questions related to the American housing crisis, homelessness, drug addiction and crime, but instead have to act as a” partner “of a private sector, a program based on faith and non -profit organizations.
“Hopelessness is a big deal in our country,” he said. “Last year, it increased by 18% – over 770,000 people in one night in January 2024. They were homeless, which is unacceptable. With a record resources coming from HUD, we still have a crisis of homelessness in our country.”

“Public-private partnerships are vital to the eradication of homelessness,” he continued. “Nonfigit institutions dealing with faith, which work every day, we have to partner. The federal government is not an answer. The federal government is a great partner, a great helper. But it is a private sector, it is based on faith, non -profit organizations really have their hands on the plow and feet, and they do what they do.”
