Gene Hackman’s dog trainer reveals challenging way surviving dogs were rescued

Joey Padilla, owner of Santa Fa Tails, told Fox News Digital that Arakawa always made sure to watch her husband’s movie star.

Arakawa led most of the orders, according to Padilli. She would bring her three dogs with her everywhere she left, even for dinner.

“These dogs were tied to Betsy. Whenever Betsy had a warrant for that, they went with her. These dogs liked to drive in a Betsy car, and it didn’t matter if he was going to the store, even if we went to dinner. We would go to dinner and dogs would be in the car. Betsy explained,” Padly explained.

Padilla has been working with Hackman and Arakawa for decades, training and watching her dogs. Fox News Digital said it had been at least a month, maybe longer, because he last saw Arakawa.

“It’s hard to explain and cover how much these dogs meant to these people,” he said.

Ted Williams, a former murder detective, told Fox News Digital that, since Hackman and Arakawa are so close to their animals, if the intruder entered their home, three dogs would become protective.

“Here’s what we know: that the hackmans were very close to their three dogs, and for someone to go in and there would be some signs of the ball game, I think those dogs would do or act in a defensive way.

“There is absolutely nothing in the investigation that these two people acted in a defensive manner, say, attacking the intruder,” Williams said.

Padilla did not want to speculate on what had happened to the couple or their dog that died, since their death is part of the underway investigation.

However, he said Arakawa would never put his animals at the expense.

“I want to repeat anything that Betsy would not do for those three dogs. In my opinion, there is no way the dog was intentional or for no purpose. It was a reason. It just broke my heart because of Zinna. Zinn wouldn’t leave Betsy’s side, they were attached to hip.

Hackman and Arakawa owned three dogs. The oldest, zinfandel, went through Zinna and was a mixed breed. She was a dog that died. She was 12 years old.

The couple also owned two German shepherds: Bear, 4 and Nikita, 7.

During an interview with Fox News Digital, Padilla described a challenging way in which one of the two survivors of the dog had to be saved. He explained that Nikita was especially difficult.

“She was really difficult. We were trying to get her, and I used treats because she was really hungry, so I gave her treats. It was just too many people. Unfortunately, people had to use the trap, and we managed to capture her and I picked her up the next day,” Padilla said.

Padilla explained that Arakawa and Hackman have been a longtime animal lovers and donated to the community.

“They donated a lot of humane society. They would go beyond and further. For the Santa Fe tails, one thing Betsy would do for Christmas, she would buy the whole staff a Christmas dinner. We are open for 365 days, and we have staff who are here with dogs, and she would get a ban on employees’ food,” he said.

“They were so kind and generous,” Padilla continued.

Almost a week after Hackman and Arakawa were found dead in their Santa Feu, Novi Mexico, home, authorities continue to compile a possible time tape to explain the mysterious deaths of the couple; The couple tested negatively on carbon monoxide.

Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 65, along with one of their dogs, were found dead in their home on February 26. Santa Fe district was considered death “suspicious” and started an investigation.
