The Democrats went after the president Donald Trump victory say that the party needs to work on regaining the trust of the voters in the new report.
“Joe Biden is leaving as a very unpopular Democratic president, we lost the election and people are mad at us about inflation, culture and borders,” Democratic strategist and former Harris staffer Mike Nellis he told Politico. “We have to change tactics because we have to restore people’s trust.”
While Democrats in Trump’s first term channeled their opposition to Trump through a “resistance” movement that relied heavily on Nancy Pelosi’s constant media appearances, Chuck Schumer and other party leaders to attack Republicans, some say Democrats need to change tactics.

“The path to prominence is not in the headlines of endless resistance,” an adviser to the potential 2028 presidential candidate told Politico.
Democrats are “more measured because people are just so tired, so they don’t have the energy to stay at 11 for the next four years,” Michigan state Sen. Mallory McMorrow told the news outlet. “My advice is, reach out, be open, but don’t scream about it.”
Other Democrats said there is a leadership void within the party that presents difficulties but also opportunities for those willing to take on the “mantle” of responsibility, one party operative told Politico.

“People are still struggling with the framework of how to challenge Donald Trump because of the failure for working people, but the framework is there, right now, it’s up for auction,” said progressive political strategist Faiz Shakir. “But maybe it is unpleasant language for the democrats, who haven’t talked like this for a long time, to talk about the ruling elites.”
Another Democratic strategist told Politico that some party leaders are being overly cautious after losing to Trump.
“If you’re thinking of running for president in 2027, I understand why your advisers are saying, keep your heads down and pick your seats,” the adviser said. “No one wants to raise their heads yet, but they’re also learning too much of their lesson from 2017 and 2018, worrying whether the resistance efforts ultimately helped the candidates — or didn’t — when they ran for president in 2019.”
