While Burns received Awad loans, Awad helped him open a credit card with his hometown. In 2024 Burns failed to make minimal payments and exceeded the limit of the credit card, and the bank sued it, according to Akron Beacon Journal.
The Burns Bank’s lawsuit was resolved after former Kent coach paid what he owed.
The loans received by Burns could violate the state laws on ethics, which prevent state employees from receiving benefits from the amplifiers.
