China has killed four Canadians in recent months, Canadian Foreign Minister Wednesday said. Such executions of the Westerner are relatively rare.
Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said she and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked for grace in drug -related accusations involved in double citizens.
Beijing’s embassy in Ottawa said they were executions for drug crimes and noticed that China did not recognize dual citizenship.
Chinese influence of the US could face the action under the slate of new accounts
“We strongly condemn the executions,” Joly told reporters in Ottawa. “Personally, I asked indulgence … all were double citizens.”
Joly said that Canada consistently seeks grace for Canadians facing mortality abroad. She said that the families asked the Government to take details about the identity of the four individuals.
Global job spokeswoman Charlotte MacLeod said that they continue to provide consular assistance to families and asked the media to respect their privacy. She said Ottawa continues to be advocated for mercy for Robert Schellenberg, Canadian who was sentenced to death for drug smuggling.

“China always imposes serious penalties for drug crimes,” said a spokesman for the Chinese embassy. “The facts about the crimes committed by Canadian nationals involved in cases are clear and evidence is firm and sufficient.”
Cinema is believed to have more prisoners every year than the rest of the world, although it is a total of state secret. The execution traditionally performs shooting, although deadly injections have been introduced in recent years.
A spokesman for the embassy said that Beijing “completely guaranteed the rights and interests of the Canadian nationals concerned,” and called on the Canadian government to “cease to be irresponsible objections”.
Two countries have some tensions. Earlier this month, China has imposed retaliation of tariffs to imports of Canadian farms and food, after Canada has imposed duties in October with electric vehicles and steel and aluminum products. Tariffs add global trade tension in the middle Circles of tariff announcements by the United States, China, Canada and Mexico.
“China sends us a message that we have to take steps if we want to see an improvement in the relationship,” said former Canadian ambassador to China, Guy Saint-Jacques.
Ian Brodie, former head of the headquarters of former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, announced at the social media to turn out that “agricultural tariffs are not the worst part of the PrC response to EV tariffs.”
And opposition conservative MP Michael Chong said that “the execution of several Canadians is unprecedented in the short term and it is obviously a sign that Beijing has no intention to improve Relations with Canada. “
China is the second largest trade partner in Canada, but relations have been bad since the Canadian authorities arrested former executive director Huawei, which they now accused of fraud.
China closed two Canadians shortly after Canada arrested Meng Wanzhou, a daughter of the company’s founder, at a request for extradition to the United States. They were sent to Canada 2021, the same day when Meng returned to China after reaching an agreement with the US authorities in her case.

Many countries called the Chinese Action “hostage policies”, while China described charges against Huawei and Meng as a politically motivated attempt to restrain themselves Chinese economic and technological development.
Amnesty International condemned the executions and noted that China had executed thousands of people in 2023.
“This shocking and inhumane execution of Canadian citizens by Chinese authorities should be an invitation to wake up for Canada,” said Kanada’s English language, Ketty Nivyubandi’s English language.
