Bon Iver Drop ‘SABLE, fABLE,’ First Album in Six Years

Good iver has returned, as the beloved Justin Vernon-fronted indie rock group released Sand, fable, their first album in over six years, on Friday through Jagjaguwar.

The band announced Sand, fable back in February, preceding the new record with the singles “Everything is Peaceful Love,” “If Only I Could Wait” and Walk Home.”

Fable sand follows 2019’s I, I, which earned Grammy nominations for album of the year and best alternative music album. The album’s lead single “Hey, Ma” was nominated for record of the year. The band’s hardly been dormant since I, Iwith Bon Iver featured on th hit single “Exile” on Taylor Swift’s Folklore back in 2020. The group was also featured on “I Think About it All the Time” on Charli XCX’s Brat remix Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat.

Vernon sat down with Lil Yachty this week for Spotify’s “Countdown To” series to talk about the new record, with the rapper commending him as “one of the best musicians, creatives, artists vocalists” in the business. Yachty called the album “different than what I thought I was going to hear.”

“I can sense it was OK with me if people didn’t immediately get it or if they don’t ever get it,” Vernon told Yachty. “It’s OK if people don’t like something, but I just felt it was so truthful and I needed to do it so much, I needed to get off my chest these positive things.”

With the album out, Vernon is hosting a release party in Los Angeles this weekend, complete with a three-team basketball tournament that Vernon himself will be competing in.
