Tyson Fury seemed distraught and subdued during today’s final DAZN PPV press conference for his rematch with three-belt heavyweight champion Alexander Usyk this Saturday, December 21, on Turki Alalshik’s season card in Riyadh.
Donning a hat and expensive threads, the ‘Gispy King’ looked deflated and had almost nothing to say during the press conference. He showed no energy to drum up interest in the fight, further cementing the belief that boxing fans have that the former WBC heavyweight champion. Tyson looked like the picture of a fighter who had already lost.
Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) is doomed. Fury’s bags under his eyes suggest he’s spent some sleepless nights worrying about the rematch. It was only today that he was there in the flesh.
The last fight didn’t go well for Fury, he lost a 12-round split decision to Usyk on May 18, and he hasn’t seemed to agree to stay in shape in recent months since then. He looks like a fighter who lost weight fast, not slow.
Fury didn’t seem engaged during the press conference, and you could tell he would have preferred to be back at home in his expensive mansion in Morecambe, Lancashire. He looks like he knows he’s going to lose, but he’s going to try, show up Saturday night, try, and then pick up this big Salary of $76 million to $85.5 million after. In other words, Fury came for the money.
Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) is considered by many to be a solid favorite to repeat with another victory and finish what he started last time, when Fury knocked him off the ropes after a ninth-round stoppage.
Usik’s confidence
“Don’t be afraid; I will not leave you alone,” Usyk said in his last words at the press conference. He felt he didn’t have to come up with any new lines. He might have said more after watching Fury appear as a lifeless fish during the press conference; he probably felt he didn’t need to think of something witty and new to say.
