President Trump is not shy to defend Christianity. His bold dedication to the protection of Christians from persecution is one of the reasons that most evangelicals voted for him for three direct choices. Although I am grateful for his strong stop for religious freedom, I am concerned with the recent action of his administration threatening Afghan Christians To self-determine “immediately” or face criminal persecution, fine and deportation-in the Taliban regime, which will probably kill them for their faith in Jesus.
Recently many Afghan Christians who have been legally allowed Entering the United States, who lived lawfully and worked in communities throughout the United States, received letters with a great message: “It’s time to leave the United States.” The message insists that the Ministry of Homeland Security “interrupts your probation”, a legal mechanism that allows these individuals to be safe in the United States. “Do not try to stay in the United States – the federal government will find you … to leave the United States immediately,” the letter concludes.
Similar letters have been obviously sent to hundreds of thousands of others who have entered the United States lawfully in recent years. But no case is as worrying as Afghan Christiansfor which deportation would probably mean martyrdom. The persecuted church guard opened doors classified Afghanistan as among the ten most dangerous countries for Christians. The situation for Christians worsened from the unfortunate withdrawal of the Administration of Biden in 2021, which left the Taliban in power.
Of course, President Trump himself certainly did not draw this letter, and I doubt that it was so widely sent by leaders within the Ministry of Internal Security, not considering full consequences. As the administration hears from conservative evangelical leaders like Franklin Graham, I pray that President Trump will overpower whoever made the decision to send these letters and allow Afghan Christians to remain legally in the United States. At least long enough to submit and receive fair decisions about asylum requirements, or until the Congress passes the Afghan Adaptation Law, the Law Process, which he ran in the last Congress by Senator Lindsey Graham, which would allow Afghans with a conditional discharge to apply for permanent legal status as long as the strict processes are cleaned.
President Trump is absolutely right, of course, that the priority of the border priority safety, and most evangelical Christians are grateful for the rapid progress he has achieved to secure our borders. Also, almost all evangelical Christians are glad to deport immigrants convicted of violent crimes.
But evangelists also agree with President Trump when he boasts legal immigration individuals who come “with love for the earth.” Afghans and others have denied religious freedom abroad they deeply love this country – and certainly should not be expelled now. Likewise, evangelical Christians want to now keep their doors open to carefully proven, lawfully recognized refugees, including Christians from countries like Afghanistan and Iran who have faced persecution or even martyrdom in their repressive countries of origin. Last year, about 30,000 Christian refugees were moved from fifty countries where open doors say that Christians face the most difficult persecution in the world.

The South Baptist (SBC) Convention, my denomination, has repeatedly reaffirmed the biblical invitation to greet refugees, which individuals were lawfully admitted to the United States after fleeing well -founded fear of persecution for reasons such as their religion, race or political opinion. Seven out of ten evangelical Christians, including about two-thirds of those who voted for President Trump in November, say Lifeway Research, a SBC research section, believe that they now have a moral responsibility for receiving refugees. As President Trump concludes the 90-day review of refugee relocation, nearly 20,000 Christians, including numerous distinguished evangelical leaders, confirmed a statement that persuaded him to restart refugees, with special care for those who were persecuted for their faith in Jesus.

Of course, as Christians, we confirm the dignity of all the people who are made in the image of God, not only Christians, so we also deal with the benefit of those who are in danger of persecution who are not Christians. But it turns out that most refugees who have been in recent years are really Christians, such as about four of the five who are currently sensitive to deportation.
I know that President Trump appreciates the legal immigration and is the champion of the persecuted Christians. I hope and I ask that he will listen to the complaints of evangelical voters, overpower the actions of exaggerated employees and protect Afghanistans and others persecuted for their faith in Jesus.
