UN panel finds Russia responsible for downing Flight MH17 in 2014 – National


The UN-AVIATION Council ruled on Monday that Russia was responsible for Downing a Malaysian airline Airline on Ukraine in 2014 with the death of 298 passengers and crew, the Dutch government said.

In a statement, it said the Council of International of International Aviation Organization would consider what form of repair was in order.

Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 went off Amsterdam, and was shot over east, Ukraine as battle between pro-Russian separations and Ukrainian forces.

In November 2022, Dutch judges convicted two Russian men and an Ukrainian man in absent from murder for their role in the attack. Moscow called the utterance “scandalius” and said it would not deliver his citizens.

The ICAO, which is based in Montreal, not immediately responded to an application for comment. The case was launched by Australia and the Netherlands in 2022.

“The decision is an important step after determining the truth and responsibility for all flight MH17, and their families and loved ones,” Dutch foreign Minister said in a statement.

“This decision also sends a clear message to the international community: States cannot be interested international law.”

The Netherlands and Australia want the ICAO Council to order Russia to fill in negotiations on repairs, he added.
