Trump’s attack on Harvard won’t make America great again

Washington, Trump’s second word for business and the world is your guide for that

I believe in staying in my lane and restricting myself to economic logic and analysis where I have some skills or least comparable benefits. The Trump administration’s efforts have a lot about the economic insanity Elimination of more than 6,500 Harvard students out of effect -About one-fourth of our student body. But the real reason I am so shocked, sorry, angry and surprised is personal.

During my Sofmore year in Harvard, I lived with my nearest two friends, a Canadian and South Africa. Through them and many other international friends I have faced new ideas, new aspects – and just fun. Some lived in the United States and became doctors, academics, journalists and businessmen. Others returned to the country but carried a permanent connection to the country with them and what it offers.

After the graduation was over, the tables were turned and I myself was a foreign student at the London School of Economics. I am not in the UK – though my tuition payment has been made – but I felt strongly about our own special relationship. When the UK government asked me a few years later a panel to assist in rebuilding their digital competition policy, the greeting came back and I jumped in the opportunity.

I am back to do a PhD in Harvard’s economy. Most of my teams were foreign citizens in the US visa. Harvard thinks himself as American and initially accepts Americans – about 15 percent of graduate students are foreigners. Although it comes to the PhD program, Harvard stars find the most outstanding possible scholars from wherever they live – and it is not surprising that about 5 percent of the world’s population outside the United States, many come from abroad.

Most of my international classmates are now working in the top US research department. Others went to other leading universities, governments and international organizations around the world. When I served in the White House of President Barack Obama, the global connections that I created benefited me and the United States. The French Treasury and the Bank of England were effective during the Eurozone crisis and Brexit.

Now I am back to Harvard education. One of my students is from a village in India whose family has never flying on the plane before leaving. Another came from a small Italian city that never sent anyone to American university. Others are refugees of war -torn countries. Last month, in a lunch with a group of economics, half of the students shown were international. Many will return home after graduation, where they will apply what they have learned. Others stay here and contribute.

So, when I think about what the Trump administration is doing, I think about these hundreds of friends, students and colleagues. But if I keep these feelings apart, the economic cost is plenty. The United States is a world leader in higher education. Degree-relieving institutions hire Johor and Assistant Worker to Administrator and Faculty to 4 million people. The United States receives $ 50 billion annually from 1 million foreign students – which is regarded as export.

Many foreign students do not just pay while here; They live and are involved in our labor force, increase productivity and become inventors, founders and intellectual leaders. Without international students and immigrants, we could not lead Indra Nui as the CEO of Pepsiko, Jensen Huang, who was established by NVEDIA, or as CEO of True Nadella and Beautiful Pichai Microsoft and Google as CEO or even Elon Mask’s CEO.

The power of America has never only come to draw about the talent of the small percentage of the world residents living here – but from the best attraction from anywhere. From modern medicine to the Internet – the breakthrough we allow the epoch of the world is often regained worldwide in universities, including Harvard.

I hope that the courts make it illegal to make voluntary clear changes on the basis of bad beliefs about opposition to the opposition to punish it, which is not supported by any Jewish faculty or my acquaintance with themselves.

I am a great fan of expression for trade and capital flow. However, the expression of the idea and the people is more criticized. And Harvard, like other universities, is a reflection of that openness. It is not surprising that President Trump is targeting us. For America and the world, these rigid verbs have to be stopped.
