The words that defined 2024—from ‘enshittification’ to ‘brat’ and ‘brain rot’

Ahead of the 2024 US election, Collins Dictionary has chosen brat as its word of the year. The publisher describes it as “characterized by a confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude.” Not coincidentally, this is also the name of a chart-topping album released by Charli XCX in June 2024.
