Texas teen killed rival competitor’s show goat in act of jealousy: report

AND a teenager in Texas is facing felony charges after allegedly killing a rival contestant’s show goat several months ago.

An arrest affidavit showed that 17-year-old Aubrey Vanlandingham, who competes in livestock shows with her own goat, allegedly admitted to poisoning Willy, a younger competitor’s goat. CBS Austin reported.

Vanlandingham is accused of using a drench gun to force Willy into the Vista Ridge High School barn with a toxic pesticide on Oct. 23, which ultimately killed the 6-month-old goat, the paper said. Security footage reportedly shows the goat trying to escape the encounter.

The teenager was reportedly seen leaving Willy and returning to check on him twice over the course of two hours before calling the rival contestant’s mother to tell her the goat was unwell.

Willy died in his owner’s arms within 24 hours after experiencing convulsions and respiratory distress, CBS Austin said.

Vanlandingham allegedly admitted to killing her rival’s goat because she thought the 15-year-old was a “cheater,” the paper reported in an arrest affidavit. She had tried to kill Willy before, but he was unsuccessful.

Willy’s death was determined to be organophosphate poisoning from phosmet, a pesticide used to control external parasites in livestock.

The mother of the 15-year-old girl told the DailyMail that Vanlandingham appeared to have no remorse.

“It’s all bizarre. We want justice done, we don’t want a slap on the wrist. We want to make sure she’s punished. We don’t feel at this point that she thinks she’s going to be punished and she has to be. She has to take responsibility for what she did. did,” she told the newspaper, adding that they want her to go to jail and get mental help.

AND police investigation into Vanlandingham’s phone revealed that she was allegedly seeking information about lethal doses of animal bleach and poisoning methods, according to CBS Austin. She also reportedly asked for “how to clear search history.”

The 15-year-old’s mother determined that Vanlandingham’s alleged crime was motivated by jealousy, not cheating.

Vanlandingham was charged with cruelty to livestock, which is a felony in Texas punishable by up to two years in prison. She was arrested Nov. 22 and released the same day on $5,000 bail, jail records show.

Her trial is scheduled for January 15.
