Tevin Farmer revealed today that he is in talks for a rematch with undefeated lightweight contender William Zepeda.
Former IBF bantamweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) gets a second chance against Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) after losing to him via a 10-round split decision on Nov. 16 on the Latino Night card in Riyadh.
If it’s a 12-rounder, Farmer could be knocked out as he looked worn out in the eighth round from the hard body shots that Zepeda threw at him in that fight.
The 34-year-old Farmer looked exhausted and ready to be stopped. He stayed on his feet as Zepeda mostly focused on landing to the body due to the head movement Tevin was using. He was elusive but couldn’t make Zepeda miss the body. That’s where he lost the fight.
Farmer and some fans felt he did enough to deserve a win in that fight. The judges scored 95-94 for Farmer, 95-94 for Zepeda and 95-94 for Farmer. Boxing News 24 scored Zepeda 9-1. The judges didn’t seem to factor Zepeda’s body into their scoring. They only focused on head shots.
Farmer won the fourth off a flash left-handed knockdown that caught Zepeda going forward. But except for the fourth, Zepeda dominated every round with his power punches, pressure and body work.
Zepeda-Farmer Punch statistics
The rematch is seen as a fight for Zepeda that will warm him up to fight the winner of the Feb. 22 bout between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield.
Zepeda probably would have fought Shakur next if he hadn’t suffered a hand injury. It ruined his plans to win the world title.
We are in negotiations for a rematch with Zepeda. ZEPEDA, don’t hide with this smoke😤
