Team Tsziu Reflects on 2024 Losses, Aims for Greatness in 2025

Tim Tsziu posted on Instagram today, telling his 283,000 followers that 2025 is the year “We’re all getting great.” Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tsziu (24-2, 17 KOs) admits 2024 hasn’t been great for him, losing his title and winning two in a row.

He was first defeated by Sebastian Fundora by split decision over 12 rounds on March 30. Then, on October 19, in Orlando, Florida, he was knocked out in the third round in an unsuccessful world title challenge against the undefeated IBF 154 lb champion Bakhram Murtazaliev.

Tsziu’s loss to Murtazaliev was brutal and signaled that he needs to rebuild his career by fighting domestic opposition in his native Australia.

Back to basics

It would be a no-brainer for Tim to continue fighting the top tier five fighters at 154, as the third loss fell past the point of no return. It would be tough mentally, but the fans would completely give up on Tsziu if he loses his next contest.

In hindsight, it was a mistake for Tsziu to challenge Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs) in his first fight since the Fundora loss. He should have taken a softer opponent, not this guy, who is one of the hardest hitters in the division.

Murtazali’s power and offensive skills would potentially be too much for Terence Crawford, Fundora and Israil Madrimov. Tsziu should have known better to trade powerful blows with this guy.

“2024 is the year of trouble. I considered myself a comeback fighter, I didn’t care who was in front of me, I was ready to take on anyone. Things don’t always go according to script.. but that’s the best thing about boxing. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. I thank everyone for their support. Sorry to let you down so much… I like to fight with the best. And that is exactly what I will continue to do. And that’s hitting with anyone. We hope everyone has a happy and prosperous New Year.
2025 is the year we all go BIG. Whatever we do. Chase greatness and never stop believing!! See you soon,” said Tim Tsziu Instagram.
