How to sign a PDF on your iPhone
One of the many advantages own an iPhone is the possibility of electronically signing documents, even when you are not at your laptop or desktop computer. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to sign every PDF you receive.
- After verifying whether the sender is legitimate, open the PDF if it is not already visible in the email.
- Hold and press PDF if visible in the body of the email, or click to open the PDF.
- In the pop-up window, select Marking and response
- In the lower right corner of the Markup toolbar, tap ‘+’ icon
- Choose Add a signature

- Choose Add or remove signature
- Use your finger, pen, or Apple Pencil to sign your name
- Once you are happy with your signature, select Done.

- To change the signature size, drag the blue dots around it.
- To properly position the signature, select and drag it to the correct position in the document.
- Then choose Done
- A drop down menu will give you an option Reply to the original email where you opened the PDF or Save to files if you want to save a PDF of your signature to your iPhone to email later.

How to add your signature to a PDF or document using a Mac
A program called Preview comes standard on each Mac computer. It’s a great and free tool for viewing or editing photos and PDFs. In addition to being able to crop and rotate images using Preview, you can mark up your PDF and easily add a signature right on your Apple laptop or desktop computer.
- Open the PDF document in the preview; if your PDF doesn’t open in preview, right-click on it, hover over it Open with and select Review.
- Once the document is open, tap Tools at the top of the toolbar.
- Scroll to Commenthover and then scroll to Signature and tap Managing signatures…
- You can add your signature in three different ways: using trackpad, camera or iPhone.

Using your trackpad to create a signature
To use your trackpad or mouse to digitally create your signature:
- Press where it says Trackpad.
- Then tap Click here to get started and start signing with your mouse or touchpad. While the mouse could be more accurate, this option is a bit touchy and makes it a bit more complicated to recreate your signature as cleanly as you like.
- Once you’ve created your signature, press any keythen click Done.
- Then click on yours signature and hold it while using your trackpad to place it wherever you want on your document.
- If you want change size that, drag the blue dots around the signature.
- When you’re done, click outside the frame around your signature and save your document by clicking Tenderloin in the upper left corner of the screen, then scroll down and click Save.

Using the camera to create a signature
For this option, you will need to get out a piece of paper and a pen and sign your name on the piece of paper, or if you have a hard copy of the document with your signature.
- First press where it says Camera.
- Then tap Click here to get started
- Sign your name onto the white paper, then hold it up to the camera so that your signature lines up with the blue line in the window.
- When your signature appears in the window, click Done.
- Then click on yours signature and hold it while using your trackpad to place it wherever you want on your document.
- If you want change size that, drag the blue dots around the signature.
- When you’re done, click outside the frame around your signature and save your document by clicking File in the upper left corner of the screen, then scroll down and click Save.

If you have both a Mac and an iPhone or iPad, this might be the easiest option:
- If your devices are connected, when you select iPhone or iPad option in Preview’s signature manager, your phone will display a box where you can sign with your finger. Go ahead and sign.
- After signing your signature, tap done, and it will reappear on your Mac in preview.
- Then click on yours signature and hold it while using your trackpad to place it wherever you want on your document.

After you create your signature on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, your new digital signature should be available on any of those devices that share the same Apple ID.
