Soccer in Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter won the coveted Heisman Trophy on December 14th.
But the days that followed were riddled with controversy as the relationship between the star college football player and his fiancee Leanne Lenee was put under the microscope. Some fans have targeted Lenee for her behavior in videos that have been circulating online.
Hunter’s teammate, Sheduer Sandersin the meantime, he decided to settle the controversy. The Buffaloes quarterback suggested critics should stop judging the wide receiver and defensive back’s personal life.
“All you athletes, entertainers, artists, etc. if you’re really trying to call Trav, you know how to get in touch with him or someone nearby,” Sanders wrote on Xon Sunday. “At this point you’re all just posting for the algorithm trying to look cool.”

At least one video has surfaced on social media showing Lenee staying in her seat moments after Hunter was announced as the 2024 Heisman winner. NFL icon and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders then appeared to urge Lenee to stand. Lenee did end up giving Hunter a brief hug before quickly sitting down amid a standing ovation from the crowd.
Hunter and Lena’s engagement was publicly confirmed earlier this year.
Other videos showed Lenee remaining seated as Hunter greeted and posed for photos with fans at an event in New York the day after the Heisman ceremony. Some fans tried to analyze Lenee’s behavior during her time at the event and even suggested that she was irritated.
Hunter spoke about the situation during Twitch live streamsaying that his fiancee cried while sleeping and consumed alcohol due to the reaction.

“You know how much it hurts to just cry yourself to sleep,” Hunter said, before adding that he didn’t want Lenee to “go to sleep sad” after drinking.
“I know what I have. I know my girlfriend. My girlfriend has been with me for five years,” Hunter said. “You’re just now starting to talk about me and you’re just now starting to be with me. Come on, man.”

Last week, Lenee took to TikTok to respond to the criticism.
“People say I’m like, ‘What am I supposed to do? Just sit here?’ she said on Dec. 16 in response to the clip. “First of all, I didn’t say that.”
on Monday, TMZ reported that Hunter decided to deactivate his Instagram account. Hunter has yet to publicly reveal the details of his decision.

Hunter is projected to be one of the first players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he is still expected to play in the Alamo Bowl game against BYU.
