Shakur Stevenson says Gervonta Davis should have chosen WBA No. 3 lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos as his March 1 opponent over super lightweight Lamont Roach.
Stevenson wouldn’t say why he thinks WBA 135-pound champion Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) chose De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) as his next challenger, but it’s possible he wanted to see him fight against him.
When that happens, Shakur could claim to be on par with Tank or better. Look at it this way: Gervonta should have looked miserable against De Los Santos, which raises Shakur’s value because he looked terrible against him, rushing all over the creation.
Sneaky Move
Gerovnta would do Stevenson’s dirty work for him by fighting De Los Santos, which would take the pressure off his shoulders to give him a rematch after their fight last year. If Tank knocks out De Los Santos, it gives Shakur an excuse not to fight him again. It’s sneaky.
Shakur defeated De Los Santos in a 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC lightweight title more than a year ago on November 16, 2023 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. De Los Santos has not fought since.

The most accurate score of the three was 115-113 as De Los Santos came close to winning and probably would have if Shakur hadn’t been leading the entire fight. Shakur said he was fighting hurt, but that’s how he always fights, so his excuse didn’t hold water.
“I think the fight Edwin De Los Santos should have been in is Tank,” Shakur Stevenson told Bet On Yourself at their YouTube channel, saying that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis should have picked highly ranked lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos instead of picking Lamont Roach Jr. out of the super welterweight division.
“I respect Lamont Roach as a fighter and I think he will be good in the fight.
“I think Lamont Roach is a great fighter. I don’t think it’s going to be an easy night’s work for Tank. I think it will be a tough fight, much tougher than people expect. I think people will be surprised how Lamont does in that fight.
