The UK considers the obligation to use chemical castration for sex offenders within the overhaul of the judicial system with the aim of release more space in its overcrowded prisons, Reuters reported. (Credit: Reuters.)
The Minister of the British Government says that “it is not a click” about the idea of chemical castration for male sex offenders and wants to make it mandatory.
The UK considers a series of options from a new report aimed at reducing the country prison population of 10,000 prisoners who help relieve chronic overcrowding.
“Problemic sexual excitement and preoccupation can be reduced by chemical suppressors and other medicines, which can be prescribed to individuals who have committed a sexual work in certain circumstances,” the new report said.
Closes in the southwestern of England have been included in the chemical castration pilot program since 2002, and the Minister of Justice Shabana Mahmood from the ruling Labor Party The legislators in Parliament said on Thursday that the program would expand to another 20 prison in two other regions of England.

Prisoners would get two drugs as part of treatment: one limits sexual thoughts, while the other reduces testosterone and “problematic sexual excitement”. Prisoners would also have a continuous counseling for the treatment of their psychological issues, such as the desire for sexual strength and control. One recent study found that rates of re -behavior up to 60% lower for prisoners who received treatment.
“For some insults, it refers to power, but for another subset of the perpetrator, a combination of chemical suppressors and psychological interventions can, we believe, have a great and positive impact,” Minister Mahmood told Parliament.
Initially, the chemical castration option would only be voluntary, and medical ethics say it could be a problem forcing doctors to treat a prisoner who does not want to do so. In Britain, there is a strict tradition of informed medical consent in which a patient may refuse medical treatment, and the doctor cannot usually be forced to perform it.

Sexual offenders make up a significant percentage of prison population in England, and at the end of March more than 20% of prisoners were closed to sexual crimes Collection. The new report warns that chemical castration “should never be used as a risk management tool or an independent rehabilitation offer, and is only appropriate for a limited number of sex offenders.”
Chemical castration is already used in some other European prisons for the treatment of sex offenders. Authorities in Sweden are conducted by limited clinical trials on Volunteers at Stockholm prison, while in Germany and Denmark it is increasingly used, but still on a voluntary basis. In Poland, courts can pass the punishment of mandatory chemical castration for some categories of prisoners in sex.
A report on Thursday, written by a former government minister from the Conservative Party, also made four ten recommendations to try to alleviate prison’s overcrowding.
They include a lesser sentence in prison within 12 months and instead encouraging other types of sentences, such as a community service or fines; Developing new policies for early release with good behavior for prisoners and marking all perpetrators who committed crimes of abuse against women and girls.

“This is a gift to criminals, who will be free to offend unpunished,” a party spokesman Robert Jenrick told reporters.
However, the report was widely greeted by Howard League for criminal reform, the world’s oldest prison organization.

“The Government takes an important step forward by accepting most of the recommendations from this important review,” says executive director Andrea Coomber, but warned that “the prison crisis will not be resolved by half a measure.”
Older police officers warned that if they need more resources behind the bars, they need more resources to manage the risk management that offenders represent outside of prison.
