Nearly 1,000 people gathered on Saturday at Main Beach in Santa Cruz, California for Protest protest directed towards President Donald Trump.
Participants formed a huge human banner who wrote “Opposition!” In rainbow colors as part of a demonstration organized by the indivisible Santa Cruz district.
The 220 -foot width screen, with a 70 -foot -high letter, was designed by long -time left -wing activist Brad Newsham.
The organizers described the event as a quiet act of resistance and showing solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

But just above the colorful banner was a completely different kind of message: “86 47,” a phrase that many interpreted as an invitation to “get rid of” 47.
In Sleng, “86” usually means to cancel, eliminate or even destroy. Combined with “47”, a number now associated with the second term of President Trump, the phrase has raised alarms among critics saying he has crossed the line.
Earlier this month, former FBI chief James Comey posted a similar message in the sand, but instead of algae, these were shells. Since then, he has removed the place after widespread criticism and action by the police.

“We don’t need the king. We want to come back the way we were. We want to make America kindly kind,” the protester Beth Basilius said to look at Santa Cruz.
While the event promoted “kindness” and inclusivity, the pictures told more conflicted stories.

Lelieur said local conservatives face growing hostility from the political left.

Only 8.5% of voters in the town of Santa Cruz are registered Republicans, according to the latest data from State Secretary of California.
Protest supporters claimed that “86 47” is a symbolic rejection of Trump’s agenda, not a literal threat. But critics say the argument falls in a political climate in which the coded language has consequences in the real world.
