Pope Francis opens Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica to kick off special jubilee year

The leader of the Catholic Church throughout the world, Pope Francis has established a special year of joy for the Christians of the Catholic Church during the Christmas ceremony in the Vatican.

The Pope marked the beginning of the celebration by opening the holy door which is usually made of bricks in St Peter’s Basilica.

The event takes place only once every 25 years, and more than 30 million pilgrims are expected to go to Rome to pass through the gates and ask for forgiveness for their sins.
