Pete Hegseth says military academy admissions will be based only on merit

Defense Minister Peta Hegsetth On Friday, he sent a letter to West Point, in the US academy and the US Air Force Academy, saying that all future reception would be based solely on merit.

“The department owes it to our nation, members of our service and our young Americans who apply to MSA to ensure that they are included in these prestigious institutions exclusively on merit“He wrote Hegsetth in the Memorandum of Academy.

He added that this would ensure that only “the most qualified candidates” would be accepted.

“Choosing anyone but best erodes flightness, our war readiness and undermines the culture of excellence in our Armed forces,“He wrote.

He said that the secretaries of military departments would have 30 days to confirm that there would be no consideration of race, ethnicity or gender in applications and that it would only be based on merit.

He said that merit could be weighed by athletic talent, a previous military service, performance at the MSA Preparation School or other similar experience.

“The department must remain unwavering in search of excellence and never threatens the high standards of our MSA,” he concluded. “The powerful officer’s corpus is crucial to ensuring that the United States army remains the most deadly that the world has ever known.”
