Singer-songwriter Nick Jonas caused backlash for what many X users interpreted as support for Elon Musk image placement of the multibillionaire entrepreneur and future co-chairman of DOGE together with the inscription “Take us to the year 3000.”
The apparent play on the Jonas Brothers’ 2006 hit song came in response to Musk’s comment on an older GIF showing the band flipping a coffee table with the caption, “My God, how the tables have turned,” in reference to Musk’s story about Tesla’s success since the victory of the newly elected President Donald Trump.
The assumption of support for Musk drew the ire of many on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, although Jonas has never explicitly expressed support for Musk’s ideas.
“I hope one day your daughter meets a man who will treat her the way Elon and his friends treat women. Let’s see how supportive you will be,” one critic wrote.

Another X user posted a screenshot from her device, showing Musk’s X account blocked, but Jonas’ reply to his tweet was visible.
“I’ll have to block you too, sorry,” she wrote.
A third commenter demanded that Jonas delete the post “now,” writing, “this man is horrible and even if this was meant as a joke, it’s not funny.”
Widespread comments similarly called for Jonas to remove the post or rethink his own answer to Musk influenced his fans.
A huge number of X users rushed to Jonas’s defense, slamming critics for overreacting, reading between the lines and indenting cancel culture. Even some who don’t like Elon Musk have come to his defense.

One X user wrote: “You can think Elon has good ideas and is a visionary AND still disagree with him sometimes the same way you do with Trump. Both used to be Democrats. Maybe we should all collectively chill and stop being so polarizing .”
Another commenter cited the wave of criticism as proof “why Trump won”.
“They will try to mob you and blame you for something as simple as tweeting Elon. The left is so far gone and gone crazy,” they added.
A third chimed in with: “It’s amazing how many people are legitimately offended by this post. No one was emotional about Elon talking to Cenk Uygur or responding to John Fetterman. Ever think you’re acting like a cult fanatic?”

Allegedly sources close to Jonas he told the Daily Mail“Nick isn’t going to back down from his Elon Musk post or double down, and he doesn’t plan to delete it. He thinks a lot of people are going a little overboard in how they’re reacting to all of this… For Nick, there are more important things to worry about than of facing internet trolls for what he thought was a fun and non-dramatic post.”
“Support or not, Nick was trying to be smart by making some kind of statement or announcement of support, but on the internet you can’t do anything without getting attacked. This will pass and Nick has already stepped away from any of this controversy he’s kind of done.”
Fox News Digital reached out to Jonas’ rep for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.
