Samuel Theodore Cain, who identifies himself as a transgender and uses the name “Roxie Wolfe” online, was arrested on May 15 by state agents for alleged publication of graphic threats aimed at Mace and her children. Cain remains in custody and the trial date is not determined.
The judge cited the seriousness of threats during the hearing.
“Mr. Cain, I believe you are a credible threat, and I will put you on a not bond,” the judge said. “The only condition that I will currently put on you is not contact with the victim.”

Mace flew from Washington, DC, to make a statement on the influence of the victim in court on Friday morning and then spoke with journalists afterwards.
“Today I come before you not only as a victim, but as a sitting member of the House of Representatives of the United States, which was the target of direct and credible threats in her life,” she told the judge.
She described how threatenings forced her to change her routine, seek refuge and seek increased patrols for the implementation of the law for her houses and congress offices.
“That meant I’m vulnerable. My staff was vulnerable. And my children were vulnerable,” she said. “Threats like these are terrorist works that were supposed to shake the foundations of democracy.”

Outside the courtroom, Mace reflected at the hearing of bonds on Friday and finally saw Cain personally.
“My first thought was, he’s huge,” she said. “This guy was more than 6 feet, over 200 pounds. I am 5 feet-6, 115 pounds. It was twice as big as I was. He was scary.
“As a mom, this was heartfelt. All I could think about was his family. And my children. My children live in fear of being killed.”
She said she was surprised, but grateful for the judge’s judgment.
“I saw women treating themselves in this country. I hope it gives women hope,” she said. “If a mentally ill man comes after us, we have to commit to our rights. I saw it that the judge is doing today.”
After hearing, Mace approached Cain’s family and shook his father’s hand.
“I shook the hand of a father whose son threatened to kill me, not out of forgiveness, but out of mercy,” she later published on X. “The strength is that you stand on your soil and we can be humble with humanity.”
“I want to thank the Samuel Cain family,” she said during her media remarks. “Their humility meant a lot to me. As a mom, it meant something to appear. We are all people. But such threats have to come with consequences.”
Mace said the threats were discovered by the Capitol police and that they were serious enough that her staff and police asked her to come to a safe place.
“This was serious. No one knew where it was,” she said. “The implementation of the law told me to go inside immediately. So it was real.”
She described the tribute that took over her daily life.

“I face threats every day. This is the second person this year. But every day I receive death threats from Trans activists and Trans People. And no American lawyer in the country of South Carolina or anywhere in the country did not take them seriously.”
She warned that the continuation of inactivity could be deadly.
“One day someone will pull the trigger. Someone will get a bullet. Someone will die.”
She also emphasized the wider pattern of violence and called on what she considers to be a lack of responsibility of Democrats.
“This case is not just in the threats of one man. It is oa a culture that tolerates violence Against elected officials, especially women who speak, “Mace said.” We do not accept terror. Normalization of threats to public servants corroses democracy from the inside.
“No Democrat said it was wrong,” she added. “Only Democrats blame the victim.”
On social networks, Mace shared Cain’s photo in an orange overalls.
“This is not Roxie Wolfe, this is not a woman, and my life is not a joke. Look at his smile,” she announced.
Mace ended her statement in court with a final plea for justice.
