Karl Miyasako, DNA analyst with Bode Technologies in Virginia, testified that mitochondrial testing of DNA connected the hair found on the back of Read’s vehicle on O’Keefe. However, he testified, the hair was a match with those associated with the Matriarchal Mother’s line, which means that both his niece and nephew could be a source.

The sample was too small to test for autosomal DNA, which could have provided with certainty with a particular individual, he said.

But the case was an unexpected turn when Shanon Burgess, a Texas expert On the digital forensics for smartphones and vehicles, they admitted that his credentials did not agree with those in his CV.

However, after a cross -examination, defense attorney Robert Alessi has questioned Burgessa “Mendacity” or unreliability after discovering inconsistencies in the biography of experts.

“But here,” Alessi said, pointing to one of at least three CVs with a conflicted dates he introduced as evidence, “you represented that you were doing it, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” Burgess said. “It’s there.”

Experts say his expertise is probably not needed, but the appearance of lies damages his credibility.

“He doesn’t need a bachelor’s science for this technology field,” said Grace Edwards, Massachusetts defender which carefully follows the case.
