Model dies in suspected carbon monoxide leak

Artist and photographer Dayle Haddon has died and another person has been hospitalized after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning at a Pennsylvania home, authorities said.

Haddon modeled for Estée Lauder and L’Oreal, and appeared on the front of magazines including Sports Illustrated and Vogue Paris in the 1970s.

Police said they received a call at 06:31 local time (01:31 GMT) on Friday that a 76-year-old man had died on the first floor of a detached home in Bucks County.

A 76-year-old woman, later identified as Haddon, was found dead in the second bedroom.

The man – who police described as being in critical condition at a hospital in New Jersey – has been identified as Walter J. Blucas, whose son is married to Haddon’s daughter.

Records show the house belongs to Haddon’s daughter, former journalist Ryan Haddon, and her husband, actor Marc Blucas, according to the BBC’s US partner, CBS News.

A preliminary investigation found that a faulty sprinkler pipe on the home’s heating system caused the leak, police said.

He said the high levels of carbon monoxide at the scene affected emergency responders, with two doctors being hospitalized with carbon monoxide and a police officer being treated at the scene.

Dayle Haddon was born and raised in Quebec, Canada, and began her career as a ballerina.

He moved to the US to pursue a modeling career, and later worked in television, appearing in films including The World’s Greatest Athlete, released in 1973, and North Dallas Forty, released in 1979.

Paying tribute to his mother, Ryan Haddon he wrote on Instagram that Dayle had a “pure heart” and a “good life”.

“She was a woman in her power, yet soft and attentive to all. Deeply creative and passionate, gifted with beauty inside and out. Always kind and considerate,” he said.

“He was a very spiritual person who valued the evolution of his life, so I know that his journey here in this part must have ended.”
