Faddis repeated Bassett’s comments that the Committee would weigh a “serious crime”, any previous criminal history, participation in rehabilitation programs, signs of remorse and the prospect of a stable life situation after releasing freedom.
“In this case, all members of the living families of the victims support the release,” he said. “The Committee can consider any positive contributions to the society that the brothers have given while in prison, which includes the advocacy of survivors from the abuse of children.”
Asked how the gravity of double murder factors into decisions, even decades later, Faddis said: “Double murder is approximately as serious as it gets.”
He admitted that, although allegedly abuse of his father, he could alleviate the assessment of the murder father, “this does not have the same mitigating effect over his mother’s murder.”

Faddis predicted that a recent legal change could benefit from the release brothers. According to the Criminal Code § 4801, the Committee on Conditional Disposal must now explicitly consider “whether the crime is the result of the prisoner of the prisoner,” he said.
