George Kambossos Jr. will play his opponent in Sydney, Australia on March 22, which is still to be determined. For former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs), this will be his first fight in Eddie Hearn’s boxing match. Skie Nicolson will be on the card.
Hearn did not reveal his plans for Kambosos. He had wanted to schedule a fight between Kambossos and former IBF light heavyweight champion Liam Parro in Australia, but after Parro’s loss to Richardson Hitchins last December, that scuppered his plans.
Hearn is also promoting Hitchins, but a feud between him and Kambossos wouldn’t be huge. Not the best use for Kambossos to feed it to Hitchins and watch him get chased. Hearn will likely focus on a bigger fight for Kambosos Jr. against someone like Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia.
Kambosos has probably lost every fight in the last four years since his upset win over Teofimo Lopez on November 27, 2021. He had one questionable win against Maxi Hughes on July 22, 2023. Many boxing fans saw it as a loss for Kambosos, as Hughes is dominated the entire fight.
Kambosos’ last four fights
– Vasiliy Lomachenko – TKO 11 defeats
– Maki Hughes – MD 12 wins: *Questionable
– Devin Haney – UD 12 loss
– Devin Haney – UD 12 loss
“I think Hitchins is a good fighter. “I think he needs me, but I want him because I see holes,” George Kambossos Jr. said. Stomping Ground when asked why he wants to fight IBF light heavyweight champion Richardson Hitchins so badly.
“I think I’m 140 with what I can bring to the table with his core style. He is very basic. He’s good at basics. “He’s got a good jab, a good left hand, a good right hand, but at 140, I think I can beat him,” Kambossos continued of Hitchins.
“(Liam) Paro did a very good job in the first couple of rounds but he got away. I think Paro was caught up with another possible mega-fight with my name on it. I see things in that fight. I love New York. It’s a good field for me, and I like to be, but it’s obviously not the favorite. I’m an outsider.”
Kambosos has no chance against Hitchins or any of the other top 10 level fighters at 140. He’s just a one-hit wonder who got lucky with a narrow 12-round split decision win over Teofimo Lopez. Small The career of the ‘Emperor’ Kambosos is sinking since then
Hitchins really needs Kambosos for a paycheck and to get more attention in his career. However, in terms of opposition, Kambossos is a big step back for Richardson. He’s not in the same league as Hitchins’ recent fights against Liam Parro, Gustavo Lemos, Jose Zepeda or John Bauza.
“I think I’m another loud New Yorker. I feel like everything has come. I’m back in the Matchroom. I’m back with Eddie Hearn. I love Matchroom. I love Eddie Hearn’s way and vision. I feel comfortable. I have been with Lou since 2016. I love Lou… I feel there is a good direction and path to become a champion again. I can see that,” Kambossos said.
After 8 years I finally get to present my 140 debut in my hometown of SYDNEY, huge congrats, on March 22nd! Full details next week. An important fight for more championship gold 🏆🇦🇺 https://t.co/ssIjE3vVa3
