Is Oleksandar Usyk an all-time great? Tim Bradley says no

Commentator Tim Bradley took to his soapbox to lecture the fans for labeling unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 12 KOs) as a “time great” for his win over Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs). last Saturday night in Riyadh.

Former two-division undisputed champion Usyk (37) defeated former WBC champion Fury for the second time, making it look easy. Before Usyk defeated ‘Gypsy King’ for the first time earlier this year on May 18th, fans were calling the 6’9″ British fighter ‘The best heavyweight on the planet’.

GOAT Status

Usyk kicked him out of that spot, prompting fans to change their tune and say he was ‘washed up’ or ‘never that good at all’. However, 2012 Olympic gold medalist Alexander’s victories over these top fighters make a strong case that he belongs among the all-time greats:

– Anthony Joshua
– Tyson Fury
– Daniel Dubois
– Mairis Briedis
– Murat Gassiev
– Marko Hack
– Michael Hunter
– Thabiso Mchunu
– Krzysztof Glowacki: *The first defeat in his career
– Tony Bellew

“First of all, I’m not even going to talk about the fight right now, I’m going to talk about all that ‘all time’ great s*** going on.” Great all the time, are you kidding me?” Tim Bradley went on to say social mediareacting to the praise Oleksandr Usyk received from fans for his victory over Tyson Fury last Saturday night in Riyadh.

“Man, look. Recency bias. “Just because he beat two of the best heavyweights (Fury and Anthony Joshua) doesn’t make him an all-time great,” Bradley went on to downgrade two-division undisputed champion Usyk.

“Usik, he is NOT an all-time great.” You have to stop doing that. He literally had seven fights. Bring on the heavyweight guys. I understand that there are accolades. He cleaned up the heavyweight division. I get that. Now he comes to the heavyweight division. I wouldn’t say he cleaned up, but he beat two of the best guys in the division,” Bradley said of Usyk’s victories over two aging British heavyweights, Fury and Joshua.

Cleaning up the division

Usyk’s wins over Fury, Joshua and Dubois mean he has cleared the heavyweight division. That, along with his accomplishments as a cruiserweight, makes him an all-time great and perhaps the best of all time.

“Now, you say he is an ‘eternal great.’ Come on, man. Wow! You have to stop it. “He’s a legend in his own right, but an all-time great, everybody’s tripping,” Bradley said.
