Lightweight contender Andy Cruz (5-0, 2 KOs) is hoping to land a big post-2025 fight following his one-sided 10-round unanimous decision win over Omar Salida (20-2, 14 KOs) at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Vegas last Saturday Night.

Cruz’s trainer, Derek ‘Bozzi’ Ennis, wanted to knock him out after he hurt Salido repeatedly in the eighth round, but he couldn’t do it. He still won 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92. The judges were kind enough to give Salido any rounds as he didn’t seem to win any of them. It should have been 100-90 x 3.
Cruz’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was then tight-lipped about who he might fight. He mentioned that he was going the IBF route, but that doesn’t seem like a possibility for Andy to find the title in 2025.
Ideally, HHERN wants to match Cruz against Keyshavn Davis, but he’s not interested at all. KeyShawn made an appearance last night, but it’s likely he only saw him as a fighter linked to rising Cuban star Andy Cruz in the amateurs.
“If I gave a clue to my performance, I would say it was good, but you can always improve,” said Andi Cruz Booking SocialRate your performance in your one-sided win against Omar Salcido last Saturday night.
I put my maximum effort into the fight, but it was against a tough opponent. He was looking for a knockout early because he knew that given my ability, it was an impossibility that he could beat me on points,” Cruz continued.
“So what I did was I realized I was a lot faster than him. He was a lot slower than me. So I went out and I used that speed and I almost took him out at the end.”
The fight was a mismatch, as Salido was not in the same league as Andy Cruz, and it was evident from the start of the fight. Salido just loaded up on every shot from the get-go, looking to score a knockout because he obviously knew his only path to victory was to get lucky. That’s how he fought in his previous fight against Chris Colbert on October 16th. He put maximum power into every shot, which eventually paid off with his ninth KO victory.
“I think it’s important to do that because you have to look at a lot of different ways,” Cruz said. “You’re facing a lot of different fighters and a lot of strong opponents. So you’re facing a lot of different situations in the ring and you have to be prepared to understand what you’re doing in those situations.
“What I have to do is work really hard to be accurate, be quick, but also go in and fight and fight this way to go in and do what I have to do.
“I went in there, because he is my son. I wanted to give him a big hug, but I was rejected. I don’t know if he’s upset because of mebut hopefully in the future we’ll get over our differences in the future the next time we meet,” Cruz said of being covered by KeyShawn Davis when he tried to hug him last Saturday after defeating Salcido at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in cosmopolitan in las vegas in cosmopolitan in las Vegas.
KeyShawn Davis is still pretty bitter about his four amateur losses to Cruz and is hardly liked by boxing fans. Key instructions to be exact, it sounds like he sees himself as a star who doesn’t need to take risks.
No one has ever fought for him to have such a high opinion of himself, and he entered the pros after coming up short against Cruz in the amateurs. He will not dare to fight against Cruz and destroy his chances to make easy money.
“What I have to do now is enjoy this win and keep doing what I’m doing, which is keep moving and improving with each fighter. Facing a tougher fight with each fight. What I can say is that in 2025 be very, very interesting,” Cruz said.
What will be interesting is whether Eddie Hearn’s promoter can line up Andy Cruz with a World Title shot in 2025, as the chances of a shot against these three fighters are non-existent:
– Gervonta Davis
– Shakur Stevenson
– KeyShawn Davis
Neither of those fighters have expressed interest in fighting Andy Cruz, and that likely won’t change in 2026. Cruz is too good. He will require Turki Al-Sheikh to convince one of these fighters to agree to fight him.
Cruz can always count on the sanctioning bodies to order the fight, but as we’ve seen with them, champions can overpower dangerous mandatory challengers for years. Boxing needs to change to prevent champions from avoiding their contenders because it hurts the sport.
