IBF Cruiser Champ Jay Opetaia knocked out by David Shika!


IBF world cruiserweight champion Jay Opetaia knocked out David Niik in four rounds on Wednesday night at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.

In the main event, Opetaia, 27-0 (21), stopped ‘The Nice Guy’ Niik, 10-1 (9) at 2:17 of the fourth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the second round, both fighters were out, and both scored well in the final seconds. In the third round, Opetaia scored a good goal, easily winning the round.

Halfway through the fourth round, Opetaia landed a hard uppercut followed by a combination that dropped Niik for an 8-count from referee David Fields. Opetia jumped Niik and landed a hard left to the chin, and he landed face first on the canvas as referee David Fields counted Niik out. Niika was on the canvas. It took Niika a while to get back on her feet.

WBO Global and IBF Pan Pacific Heavyweight Champion Justis ‘JPH’ Huny, 12-0 (7), stopped Shaun ‘God’s Warrior’ Potgieter, 10-2 (7) at 0:33 of the second round of a scheduled 10-rounder.

In the first round, Huny took a jab at Potgieter, who was barely able to stay upright. In the second round, Huny continued to pound Potgeieter until referee Phil Austin stopped it.

Max McIntyre, 7-0 (6), stopped Abdulsalam Samam, 8-2 (1), in the fourth round for the vacant IBF Youth super middleweight title.

In the fourth round, McIntyre scored three knockdowns, ending the match.

Ben Mahoney, 15-0-1 (8), defeated Fan Zhang 8-3-1 (5) in 10 rounds for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific super middleweight title.

Heavyweight Teremoana Jr, 6-0 (6), #266.8, of Brisbane, Australia, knocked out Osasu Otobo, 11-2-1 (5), #284.8, of Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany, in the first round of a scheduled six-rounder .

Teremoana landed a chinlock in the first round and Otobo counted out.

Lightweight Teylah Gentzen, 6-1 (3), lost a split decision to lefty Shawna Brown, 5-0 (3) in the 10×2 rounds.

Featherweight Tony Ingram, 6-1 (3), lost to Runkey FIST-OF-FURY’ Zhou, 9-2-1 (3) in six rounds.

Judge Philip Holliday. Scores 78-74 twice and 77-75.

Hwy Lt. Bill McAllister, 3-0 (3), #173.8, of Brisbane, Australia, stopped Jordan Towns, 2-3 (1), #174.8, of Gold Coast, AUST, in the second round of a scheduled four-rounder.

In the second round, Towns’ corner threw in the towel.

Welterweight Cody Shalali, 1-1-1, drew with lefty Albert ‘Baby Yod’ Tulu, 1-1-1, in four boring rounds.
