Human remains found washed ashore in Southern California


Authorities in Southern California found additional human remains Thursday, a day after a human leg was found washed ashore near where a boat carrying two fishermen capsized earlier this week.

Palos Verdes Estates Police Department officers responded to a call around 8:20 a.m. on Christmas Day when someone spotted the accessory, Fox Los Angeles reported.

On Thursday, authorities found a second human leg and femur, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The remains have not been identified. Palos Verdes Estates Police Capt. Aaron Belda told the newspaper that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office will try to identify the remains and determine if they are related to the Dec. 23 boating incident.

The two men went fishing in a small boat on Monday afternoon and disappeared the next day.

Their boat was found capsized near a rocky shore in Palos Verdes Estates US Coast Guard he said. A Coast Guard search was conducted on Christmas Eve but was called off Wednesday due to dangerous conditions, the Times reported.

Last month, a human skull and bones washed ashore in the same area where the latest remains were found. Belda said it was not clear whether the recently found thigh bone was related to the case, the Times reports.
