Attorney General of Georgia Chris Carr is asking the state Supreme Court to throw out an appeal by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, after she was removed from the election interference case against President-elect Trump.
Earlier this month, a Georgia appeals court disqualified Willis from a Georgia election interference case against Trump et al, citing an “appearance of impropriety.” The panel also cited a romantic relationship between Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
On Monday, the attorney general, who has announced plans to run for governor in November, released a statement on social media regarding the ruling against Willis.
“A Georgia appeals court has ruled that the Fulton County district attorney created her own conflict and rightfully removed her from the case against President-elect Trump,” Carr wrote. “The ‘law’ has become too commonplace in American politics and it must end.

“As such, I would encourage the Georgia Supreme Court not to entertain her appeal,” Carr continued. “We hope the DA will now focus taxpayer funds on successfully prosecuting violent criminals in Fulton County.”
Willis, who led the prosecution’s extensive case against Trump, came under fire after she was accused in February of having an “inappropriate” affair with Special Prosecutor Wadewhom she hired to help prosecute the case.

Wade was eventually forced to resign from the prosecution team.
The court did not throw Trump’s indictment completely, but Willis and the assistant prosecutors working in her office now have “no authority to proceed.”

“After careful consideration of the trial court’s findings in its order, we conclude that it erred in failing to disqualify Plaintiff Willis and her office,” the court filing states. “The remedy devised by the trial court to prevent a continuing appearance of impropriety did nothing to address the appearance of impropriety that existed at times when Prosecutor Willis exercised his broad pretrial discretion as to whom to prosecute and what charges to bring.”
