The Battle of Britain between heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could finally be upon us in early 2025. AJ and Fury’s promoters are ready to make this fight, and the Brits are ready to see two British stars mix it up. As they say, better late than never.
Fury’s loss last Saturday night against Alexander Usyk may have spoiled the fun. In a 12-round unanimous decision loss in Riyadh, he fought as if he was afraid of being knocked out and looked fat, poorly trained and lethargic.
With his briefs pulled up to his sternum to cover his flabby midsection, Fury looked awful in the embarrassing display. It was hard to believe that ‘The Gispi King’ had gone through the entire three-month training camp and looked like this.
After that performance, trying to sell Fury vs. Joshua as well ‘Battle of Britain’ conflict would be a mistake. That doesn’t stop their promoters, however, as they’ve learned that it’s too risky not to do this fight now.
The timing is clearly not ideal, as both have losses and look old, washed and ready for grazing. However, many British fans can’t wait to see former heavyweight champions Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) and Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) mix it up for the first of two fights in 2025.
Ideally, AJ and Fury should pick up a few wins before the match because it seems pathetic for them to fight now and both of them have lost. Fans would have a different view if they both defeated a few top contenders first and then met. If they cannot do that, they should retreat rather than fight.
Many fans on social media think it’s too late for Joshua and Fury to fight because both are so shot that the fight is being seen as a timer match between two rich millionaires trying to line their pockets at the public’s expense before leaving the sport. However, it is doubtful that any of them will retire after the next two fights.
There is too much money to be made and British fans don’t give up on their fighters, no matter how old they are. Derek Chisora is an example. If the promoters want to maximize revenue, they should first rebuild Joshua and Fury against several contenders before leading to a Battle of Britain clash. Don’t be short-sighted.
“I still think Tyson just won. I did not lament the result of the fight. “I was moaning when they scored,” Frank Warren said Secondsouttalking about how the judges scored Tyson Fury’s rematch against Alexander Usyk last Saturday.
“I don’t see how one judge gave Tyson one round for the last seven rounds.” That is impossible. I watched it, and I don’t know how he got it. Usyk did not win in the last seven rounds of that fight.
