Former Supreme Court Justice David Souter died on Thursday at his home in New Hampshire at the age of 85, the court announced on Friday.
“Justice Souter appointed President George HW Bush in 1990, and retired in 2009 after serving in court for over 19 years,” the statement said.
“Justice David Souter served our court with a big difference for almost twenty years. He brought unusual wisdom and kindness throughout the life of a public service. Souter then raised the ranks to become the Chief Lawyer of New Hampshire in 1976.
“In 1978, he was appointed associate of justice of the Supreme Court in New Hampshire, and was appointed the Supreme Court in New Hampshire as an associate of justice in 1983. He became a judge of the Appeal Court of the United States for the first round of May 25, 1990,” the Supreme Court said on Friday.
