Two months after the death of Liam Payne, an Argentine judge on Monday upheld charges against five people in connection with the death of the British singer, according to the Associated Press.
A court official has confirmed that two people have been given preventive detention — a form of pre-trial detention — for supplying the One Direction singer with drugs.
Payne died on October 16 “as a result of a fall from the balcony of a third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires district of Palermo where he was staying,” according to the National Criminal and Prison Prosecutor’s Office No. 16, whose temporary head was Marcelo Roma. He was 31 years old.

Authorities confirmed that Payne died after 5 p.m. at the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighborhood, located on Costa Rica Street. The employee called 911 to request help for a guest who was “under the influence of drugs and alcohol who destroyed some items in the room.”

The official confirmed that one person remanded in custody is an employee of the hotel, while the other is a waiter whom Payne met at the restaurant. Both suspects are reportedly facing drug possession charges and will have to appear before a judge, the newspaper reported.
Three other people have been charged with manslaughter, including two hotel managers and a businessman who was with Payne in Argentina. Prosecutors filed charges in November.

Argentina’s National Criminal and Prison Prosecutor’s Office announced in a press release last month that “several dozen testimonies were received at the headquarters of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, including hotel staff, family members and friends, medical experts, biochemists and psychiatrists.”
Additionally, more than 800 hours of video from various hotel security cameras and others on public roads were reviewed, as well as the contents of Payne’s cell phone, including calls, messages and conversations on messaging apps and social networks.

As stated in the press release, the prosecutor’s office “analyzed, among other things, statements, videos, messages, documents, invoices, social networks and communications.” It was “convincingly established” that at least four third-party shipments of narcotics were made to Payne during his stay at the Casa Sur Hotel between October 13 and 16.

This was reported by the Associated Press initial toxicology results it showed that the 31-year-old died with cocaine in his body. Prosecutors ruled out the possibility that Payne died by suicide.

Final toxicology results are still pending and are not expected to be released for weeks, but a preliminary report “suggests evidence of cocaine exposure,” the official told the newspaper, before stressing that the initial results were not an accurate reading of the amount circulating in his blood when died.
Additionally, the official spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity. A preliminary autopsy report released in October revealed that Singer of One Direction died of “polittrauma” and “internal and external bleeding”.
Payne had one child with his ex-girlfriend, a 7-year-old son, Bear Cheryl Cole.
