The fire burning in Pacific Palisades, an affluent area of Los Angeles near Malibu and Santa Monica, has been growing rapidly.
Its path has been blown by hurricanes – dry winds from the mountains to the north and east to the coast of LA, which are called “Santa Ana winds”.
CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, has correspondent Danya Bakus covering the events. He describes how an “explosive” inferno is growing, with strong winds sending up the flames that ignite the fire.
