FDA head raises alarm on ‘gas station heroin’ impact on youth

“I’m very worried,” Makary wrote. “I want the public to be particularly aware of this dangerous product and a serious and continuous risk that represents American youth.”

Products are usually sold in practical stores, gasoline stations, wipe stores and online merchants, and go named Tiana, Zaza, Neptune’s Fix, Pegasus and TD Red.

Makary said that the FDA follows the distribution and sale of products containing Tianeptin, but urged his colleagues to spread the drug information, appreciating the size of its basic danger.

In some countries, Tianeptin is licensed and sold as an atypical antidepressant, and in the countries in which it is approved, a typical marked dose for the treatment of depression is 12.5 mg orally, three times a day, Makary said.

When the higher doses are taken, they can produce euphoria. Some countries have taken steps to limit the way Tianeptin is prescribed or betrayed and even revised stickers to warn people of its potential addiction.
