In March 2022, it was announced that Willis would “deviate” from his acting career for the diagnosis of aphasia. It was later announced that he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

In April, Heming Willis – who divides her daughter Mabel Ray Willis, 13, and Evelyn Penn Willis, 11 – revealed the cover of her book on social media and followers to look at what her husband was diagnosed with.
“Born from sadness, shaped by love and a purpose, this is a book I need when Bruce was first diagnosed with, and I was frozen from fear and uncertainty,” she wrote a book on Instagram.
“This is a book that I believe will help the next caregiver. It is filled with support, insight and hope needed to move on this trip.”

The author shared a sweet black and white photo of her and Bruce on the cover of the book as she longed watched her husband with all the smiles.
“I wrote a book that I would like someone to put myself in the hands of the day we got a diagnosis,” her second photo on Instagram read.
“This book is for all of us to find our way through the unknown with love, crumb and courage. You are not alone.”
During the forum, Heming Willis also emphasized the importance of caring for guardians.
“We should talk so much more about that, because at some point we will take care of someone we love, or we may need to worry. So this is a really important conversation that, hopefully one day, the government will take seriously.”
