Hannay in London: Looking for a UK Boost
It’s a strange move by Dev because he’s not fighting a Brit; he is taking an embarrassing loss and his stock is low. He seems desperate to make this move, but it shows where he is in his career.
It will look bad for Hani if a few fans and members of the media show up to watch him practice. However, a fair amount of British media will probably turn up to get an interview.
Some believe the move is to build Hanei’s brand overseas in the hope Turki Al-Shiekh will pick him to fight on one of his seasonal cards in Riyadh. By training in London, former two-league world champion Devin will gain exposure in the British press and potentially be noticed by the Turks.
If he wants to add Devin to one of his cards, he could match him up against a formidable opponent, such as Richardson Hitchins, Liam Parro or Jaron Ennis. It’s doubtful Hannay would agree to fight either of those guys because he wouldn’t want to risk a rematch with Ryan Garcia.
Haney’s A-list Status Lost
In the United States, Hani’s stock has plummeted since a combination of his loss to Ryan Garcia and his decision to file a lawsuit and step out of the ring for a year rather than fight. The way his career looks right now, it doesn’t look good for him.
Because of that loss, he is no longer one of the A-list fighters, and he has little chance of returning to his former position of high status. There is no weak champion like the ones Hannay defeated to win the two-division world title.
