Devin Haney is back in training and preparing for whenever his next match is scheduled. Haney, 26, appears to have lost muscle mass, perhaps due to atrophy after seven months of inactivity.
The weight loss could be a strategic move for former two-division world champion Hani to ensure he stays at 140 or moves back down to 135.
If Hannay could move back down to lightweight, there are plenty of well-paying fights for him against these fighters:
Gervonta Davis
William Zepeda
Shakur Stevenson
Keyshavn Davis
Devin has lay fallow since his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20, and the loss ruined the momentum of his career. When you lose a fight like that, the worst thing you can do is sit idle, thinking about the loss and being mentally tormented by the memories. In Ryan’s case, he had no choice but to sit out the one-year suspension. Hanei should have returned by now.
Hanay’s high expectations could be one of the main issues keeping him out of the ring. If he insists on getting the same purse he got for the Ryan fight, it’s going to make it difficult for him. Only a few fighters around Henny’s weight can bring him the same money.
Had he won that fight, he probably would have been back in the ring by now with a big money fight against Gervonta Davis or Teofimo Lopez. Tank could be an option for Hani in 2025 if he plays his cards right.
Former two-division world champion Hannay (31-0, 15 KOs) hasn’t given any hints about who he wants to fight, but he will have to fight a big name if he wants to be paid according to his last bout against Ryan. If it’s a fight he wants, he needs to tell his father, Bill, to be nice to Kingry, break bread and drop the idea of a lawsuit.
