It is quite common to say that it is 13-1 Kansas City Chiefs it shouldn’t be what their record is – but that’s just fuel for the back-to-back champions.
Of course, the chiefs won more games in the last possession, and the ball bounced back to them many times – literally and figuratively.
But Chiefs safety Justin Reid is literally thanking the doubters of what the Chiefs can do in the playoffs.

“Thanks for the motivation. We appreciate the motivation people give us,” Reid told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “Despite winning two championships in a row, despite everything they said last year, they still don’t believe. And we appreciate that. It turns us on when we hear that. I like the extra motivation. It fires me up, and it makes me to go there to prove something.
“They never have to [learn]. We’re just going to keep showing up.”
Reid won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs, but his ring in February wasn’t the only championship he won this year. He also took home the Chess.com BlitzChamps title.
Reid has always been intrigued by chess, but took it more seriously when he entered the NFL – and now he’s become a bit of a locker room staple.
“We have a tradition of playing every night before a game. As soon as we finish team meetings, I have a chess board on my locker, the guys come in and we play quick five-minute games. The guys from the office come down, the players play, and if you win, you stay, you lose, you come back okay,” Reid said.

Extra security became a combination of superstition and brainstorming before the game.
“You can’t always be too deep into anything. It’s nice to take your mind off one subject and do something else. I think it’s fun and it’s become a bit of a tradition that we always do it now,” he says.
NFL Films will release a documentary about Reid’s chess title and how other NFL stars got involved. The title also gave Reid the ability to raise money for his own charity.
“Everybody uses the same ‘it’s a game of chess,’ whether it’s football or work or whatever,” Reid said, adding that it’s a good way for people to bond. “It’s a way of using tactics and being three steps ahead of the opponent. It’s fun that they’re promoting it. I think it’s good and I think it’s a fun game for everybody.”
Reid confronts his ex Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon while the Chiefs are in their final home game. And with back-to-back reigning champions, he knows exactly what it takes to bring home another Lombardi Trophy.

“You want to play your best football going into the playoffs, and we don’t feel like we played our best football, which is great,” Reid said. “There’s still a ways to build, still things to do to continue to get better. It’s just about not being satisfied and preparing every week. The physical side will take care of itself, but whoever is mentally prepared and doesn’t make those mental mistakes when The pressure will be the difference here, we’ll just keep it going.”
