Cate Blanchett is one of many actors who express fears artificial intelligence.
In a recent interview with the BBC, the Oscar winner said she was “deeply concerned” by the technology.
“I look at these robots and driverless cars and I don’t really know what it does for anyone,” she told the newspaper.
Blanchett added that she is “less concerned” about the impact of artificial intelligence on her work and more “about the impact it will have on the average person”.

“I’m worried about us as a species, it’s a much bigger problem,” she said.
The “Don’t Look Up” star continued, saying the threat of artificial intelligence is “very real” because “you can completely replace anybody.”
“Forget if they’re actors or not, if you’ve filmed yourself for three or four seconds, your voice can be replicated.”
She added: “When you look at it from one side, it’s creative, but it’s also incredibly destructive, which of course is the other side.”

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?
Blanchett’s fears were voiced just weeks before Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the company that represents her, and YouTube announced their new partnership to manage actors and athletes in AI-generated content.
“By working with CAA, we will gain insight from some of the world’s most influential figures—some of whom have been significantly influenced by the latest waves of AI innovation—to improve our product before we release it to a wider group of creators and artists,” the company said. it was stated in the blog post.
“When you look at it on the one hand, it’s creative, but it’s also incredibly destructive, which of course is the other side of it.”
“Direct experience of CAA clients with digital replicas in the development of artificial intelligence will be crucial in shaping tools that responsibly empower and protect creators and the wider YouTube community.”
Next year, CAA’s clients will have access to technology that can identify AI-generated content that depicts their likenesses, allowing them to remove it through a privacy complaint process.

We are proud to partner with YouTube as it takes this significant step in empowering talent with more control over their digital likeness and how and where it’s used,” Bryan Lourd, CEO and co-chairman of Creative Artists Agency, said in a statement to YouTube’s post about the deal.
Several actors have already run into issues with their facial and voice likenesses being used without their consent for AI-generated material.
“Black Widow” star. Scarlett Johanssonalso a CAA client, sought legal action against OpenAI last year when she claimed the company released its “Sky” voice system that resembled her voice after she had already turned down the company’s offer to hire her.
“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angry, and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would go for a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets couldn’t tell the difference. Mr. Altman even insinuated that the resemblance was intentional , tweeting the single word ‘she’ – a reference to the film in which I voiced the chat system, Samantha, who is intimate with a human,” the statement, NPR announced in May, read.

“Because of their actions, I was forced to hire a legal representative, who wrote two letters Mr. Altman and OpenAloutlining what they did and asking them to describe the exact process by which they created the voice of ‘Sky’. Accordingly, OpenAl has reluctantly agreed to remove the ‘Sky’ voice,” the statement continued.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said: “Sky’s voice is not Scarlett Johansson’s and was never intended to sound like hers. We chose the actor behind Sky’s voice before any contact with Ms. Johansson. Out of respect for Ms. Johansson, we have stopped using Sky’s voice in our products. We are sorry for not communicating better to Ms. Johansson.”
In August, Tom Hanks released a statement on Instagram, saying, “There are multiple ads online that falsely use my name, likeness, and voice promoting miracle drugs and miracle cures. These ads were created without my consent, fraudulently, and through artificial intelligence.”
He continued: “I have nothing to do with these posts or the production and treatments, or the spokespeople who praise these drugs. I have type 2 diabetes and work ONLY with my licensed physician regarding my treatment. DO NOT BE FOOLED. DO NOT BE FOOLED. DO NOT LOSE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.”

Hanks’ character was also used in a dental company scan in October 2023, when he issued a similar warning fans.
